Our eye to the future

At The Openwork Partnership we are always looking for entrepreneurial and innovative people to join our growing business. Our graduate scheme is one of the many ways we are nurturing the next generation of financial advisers.

We have a great heritage of working through the many changes in the world of financial advice and many of our leadership team as well as our network of advisers are among the most experienced in the industry. Our graduate scheme has been developed to ensure that this knowledge and expertise is passed onto future generations and that we are able to bring fresh talent, new ideas and great energy to our business.

Over time, each new intake of graduates will bring a new dimension to our business.

Philip Howell

Philip Howell, Chairman said: “I see this very much as a ‘win win’ for graduates joining The Openwork Partnership. We have a chance to give young people a career pathway into our industry. They will have the opportunity to achieve chartered status grounded in practical experience supporting our partner firms and we have the chance to support them as they take their place in our succession plans.”

Showcase opportunities

The Openwork Partnership Graduate Scheme has been designed to showcase the opportunities available within the Financial Services sector. It gives individuals the chance to learn and see first-hand the potential career paths within the organisation over a 24-month period. This helps them to make a more permanent decision about where they see their longer-term future.

Potential candidates are provided with an initial three months of immersive industry training to allow them to understand how the industry works from experts in each area. This includes mentoring from experts in:

  • Fund management
  • Fund selection and design
  • Wealth Proposition and the use of Risk profiling
  • The Mortgage and Protection world and its importance in Financial Planning
  • How Platforms work and their integral use within Financial Planning and Investment
  • How do advisers make money and how do we contract with our firms

Learning and development

Each graduate can undertake RO1 and CF6 training from our Business School team and receive support through the exam. Those who wish to continue with financial advice training longer-term may gain access to our Business School to train them through to Diploma status.

In addition, we have used both internal and external experts to run courses on soft skills such as:

  • Effective time management
  • Understanding and appreciating your personal learning styles
  • Personal brand and resilience
  • How to use social media effectively in the workplace
  • Communication to maximise impact
  • Belbin: What is your profile and how do you identify with others to help make yourself more successful
  • How to build trust-based relationships in a virtual world

Real experience of real value

Following their initial three months’ of training, the remaining nine months are spent in a full working situation on a topic of high value to our business. The current intake is right at the forefront of our evolution as they are in the field supporting the roll out of our technology platform - ConcertHub.

ConcertHub is our client engagement system which will deliver improved end-to-end client experience and an efficient back office for all firms. This makes it easier and faster for each adviser to serve their clients well.

Working in support of ConcertHub gives the graduates first-hand experience of the world of a Financial Adviser to really cement their thoughts on whether this is the right career path for them.

A range of opportunities

As well as spending nine-months in the field working with firms, each graduate also spends two days a month in a different area of the business. This helps the graduates understand the different roles within our Central Office Teams and the depth and breadth of the opportunities available. Following this initial year all candidates get the opportunity to apply for two 6-month rotations into head office departments to really understand how these areas function before deciding on their longer term career path.

All our graduates have time with our Chief Executive, Chairman and our Executive team who share strategic thoughts on the business, helping each individual to gain insight as a potential leader of the future.
